Cecilia’s Aging Gracefully Skincare Series: Targeting in Your 30s

I hope you all had an amazing Fourth of July and have been enjoying the summer so far! Today, I’ll be continuing my series on skincare for each individual age group. As I’ve said in the past, the needs of your skin change as you get older and tailoring how you care for your skin to those needs is key for aging gracefully. Last time, we covered skincare for those of you who are in your twenties, which calls for a simple but holistic preventative approach to setting up your skin for success. However, as you reach your thirties, your skin begins to lose elasticity and therefore, requires a little more love in order to keeping it look lifted and toned. Here are my recommendations that will make you feel amazing all throughout the decade:

To begin, I recommend keeping up with daily cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and finishing with both eye cream and sunscreen application that was established in your twenties. However, I suggest tweaking some of the products you use, as well as introducing a few more practices to this routine to aid the specific issues that begin to come to light at this age. As for products, I suggest swapping your basic cleanser for something more targeted, such as a milk-based one for dry/sensitive skin or a gel (make sure it’s alcohol-free!) for oily/combination skin. Additionally, even though it adds an extra step, I can’t stress how important exfoliating is at this age. As you grow older, your cell turnover rate slows, allowing more dead skin cells to build up. Exfoliating with enzymes is a gentle and effective way to cleanse pores and remove the unnecessary skin cells. I love Alchimie Forever’s Gentle Antioxidant Refining Scrub, which features powerful papaya enzymes, or go straight to the source and follow my simple instructions for using an actual papaya to gently exfoliate, leaving you with a beautiful glow.

I also recommend adding an antioxidant serum into the mix. Think of this step like taking vitamins for the skin. You want to look for something that’s high in vitamin c and is also super hydrating. Designed to nourish and revive skin, my best-selling Black Currant Serum fits the bill. This serum contains high levels of phytonutrients, antioxidants, vitamins, and essential fatty acids, which are the foundation to boosting collagen, elasticity, and bringing life back to your complexion. Additionally, tweaking the toner you’re using can be a perfect way to rebalance and refresh skin. Try my Rose Toner or my DIY Daikon Water Toner, which consists of just two ingredients, daikon and dried chrysanthemum flowers, and brightens, eases inflammation and cools the skin. Finally, for at home care, I highly endorse integrating facial massage or gua sha practices into your daily skin ritual to promote circulation, oxygenate the skin, depuff, and stimulate acupressure points. Gua sha is an ancient facial therapy based on Traditional Chinese Medicine that’s amazing for improving blood circulation, relieving sinuses and tightening the skin. In your thirties, I recommend performing gua sha or facial massage one to two times a week. For a full tutorial on how to preform gua sha using my Rose Quartz Gua Sha Tool, click here.

At this time in your life, it’s also important to become more regimented about professional skincare treatments. Think of monthly facials as the foundation of a house and your daily skincare routine as the bricks that build the walls of the building. Without the foundation, you can’t build a sturdy structure. Specifically for those of you in your thirties, I recommend either my LED Light Therapy facial treatment or my Sculpt & Empower facial treatment, depending on what your needs and goals are. My LED Light Therapy treatment is amazing for eradicating sun damage, sunspots, hormonal pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and increasing circulation. This treatment combines the best of an organic stimulating peel with LED Light Therapy to reawaken and refresh your skin. Cleansing, exfoliation, jade rolling facial massage, LED Light Therapy (red for anti-aging and blue for congested, blemished skin), and Hyperbaric Oxygen Spray infused with Black Currant Serum are included. The results include re-plumped skin, fading of scars, calming of inflammation, and reduction of acne.

Meanwhile, my Sculpt & Empower treatment is geared toward toning, lifting, plumping, lymphatic drainage, and reducing puffiness and inflammation. This microcurrent facial is designed for all skin types and even benefits those of you in your thirties who have yet to see fine lines or wrinkles, as this will prevent the natural progression of aging. This facial builds collagen leaving skin plump and hydrated, all while lifting the facial muscles, contouring the jawline, diminishing wrinkles and alleviating dark circles, excess water, and fine lines. The best part about this treatment? It boasts immediate results, comparable to plastic surgery or Botox.
